Emmit Fenn is Here

FennEmmitt Fenn is a new guy for me.  And I’d venture to say he’s new to a lot of you all as well. And that’s ok, because he’s not done a ton of music or releases, but that’s about to change. In hearing some of his demos in the works, it’s clear that the one tune you might have probably heard, ‘Painting Greys’ (under the artist name of Babbit) is not just a flash in the pan or even his best work. He has good things coming and he’s just getting started. I sent him a few Q’s for him to A because I am truly intrigued. So while you listen check out the A’s to my Q’s and get ready for the goodness to come…

Waxhole:

First off, the tune Painting Greys has really brought you out into the public eye. How’d that song come about for you? Quick writing session? A collage of ideas over time?

Fenn:

Painting Greys simply came about from just sitting at my piano one day. I originally wrote the song for one of my friends to sing on but decided to sing on the song myself and ended up loving it.

Waxhole:

The vocals on Painting Grey are your first foray into vocals on your tunes. This going to be more of a regular feature in your music?

Fenn:

Definitely. The next couple releases really explore my own vocals so can’t wait to share them with everyone.

Waxhole:

What’s your history with music? Learn any instruments as a kid?

Fenn:

I’ve been making songs on the piano for as long as I can remember and try to learn any instrument I can get my hands on – I’ve been exploring multiple sides to my sound and haven’t stopped ever since.

Waxhole:

Still very new in your career, what are some of the things you want to experiment with or try with your music?

Fenn:

I’m a huge fan of working with other artist so thats something I definitely want to experiment more with. With my own music, one thing that I’ve been trying is bringing more acoustic instruments into my songs to create a more organic sound.

Waxhole:

Have you thought about your live sets yet? What type of live sets do you connect the most with as a fan?

Fenn:

I have, and I’m very excited about it to say the least. As a fan, I would say the types of sets I connect with the most are the ones that have an actually live element to them so that will definitely be something thats present in my own set.

Waxhole:

Living in the great musical mecca of LA, where do you go to write music or get inspired?

Fenn:

I honestly don’t know haha. I try to write everywhere go and about everything that is personal to me, so I don’t know. Life I guess.

Waxhole:

What’s next for you? What do we need to look out for in the near future?

Fenn:

I obviously can’t speak about it much but there will definitely be new music coming out very soon.

Big huge thanks to Emmit for taking the time to answer my questions, and can’t wait to hear what he’s got next!
