Good Karma With Justin Jay & Friend
Los Angeles-based producer and DJ Justin Jay is pleased to announce his first single on lauded UK label Black Butter with new single ‘Karma’, released November 24th and impacting January 29th. The single was given its first spin by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1 and premiered on Complex online.
Released under new cross-genre project Justin Jay & Friends, ‘Karma’ presents an exciting new chapter for the 22-year-old artist who has cemented his name through a steady stream of celebrated releases. 2015 has seen him growing both his artistry and audience with his Momentum EP on Catz ‘N Dogz’ Pets Recordings, Annie Mac-released track, ‘Mind Games’, Chris Lorenzo collaboration track ‘Storm’, and his Mom, I Graduated! EP on Dirtybird, as well as a popular remix of Alison Wonderland’s ‘Take It To Reality’. In September he performed an After Hours mix on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show back as well playing the Mixmag Lab in Los Angeles in February – all the while still based out of his university dorm room in LA.
‘Karma’ features vocalist Josh Taylor and guitarist Benny Bridges and serves as the first single under new collaborative project ‘Justin Jay & Friends’. With roots in contemporary yet classic feeling house music as well as soul, funk, and jazz, Justin Jay & Friends is a platform for likeminded artists in fusing tasteful dance music with vocal led songs and a live, organic approach to instrumentation.
‘Karma’ sets the tone perfectly with tribal percussion, jungle noises, and silky vocals, before introducing the guitar and synth-laden deep house groove. The song then evolves with dynamic changes, added bassline grit, pitched-down vocoder and guitar/vocal harmonies – coming together to an intoxicatingly shadowy, cross-genre potion.
