Xhjyl Is On Point

Always a fan of the indie hip hop, I tend to listen to a lot, and a lot is not very good.  Respect the grind, respect the craft, but many people just try to fit into a sound that just doesn’t foster creativity or pure self-expression.  And some I just don’t like the flow, or the lyrics.  Not to say the tunes aren’t good, just not up my alley.  Well X, or Xhjyl, was first introduced to me by The Philosofist on this track HERE, and I’ve been following this Seattle based artist ever since.

A few singles, collabs, and features later he has a 6 track EP to give us.  Featuring production from J1K, and The Philosofist himself, among others, this EP has a lot of what we’re already a fan of…beats that kill it throughout.

Crime, produced by J1K, is that quintessential J1K beat, using bomb samples from back in the day to great effect.  Kryptonite is probably my favorite track from the EP and the beats from Cardo (alos has produced for Wiz Khalifa) absolutely slams.  And then the EP closer, Endorphins, produced by Banamak, is a great way to end it, with the sample that Moby made famous, X provides his flow that brings it all together.

We’d be remiss not to include a remix that The Philosfist, aka Matt Ojeda, did of the track Crime.  All of the work that X and Matt do and on this EP, it’s only natural to include one of his works.

So jam these tunes, cop the album for FREE (thanks X!), and follow X (Soundcloud) and The Philosofist for even more from the two solo and collab’s.
